Longhouse Courtyards
Luxury Villa Crete
Longhouse is an exceptional luxury in villa Crete designed to please and surprise. On either side of the vast living room sit two courtyards open to the sky with electrically operated sliding glass roofs introducing additional light and air into the centre of the villa.
Entering Longhouse through the double front doors you are you are greeted by an enduring emblem of Crete, the olive tree! Sited in a Zen inspired courtyard the gnarled old olive tree is partnered with local rocks and cactus.
At the other end of the house, a corridor housing the library leads into an unexpected Japanese design hidden courtyard revealing a space for reflection and contemplation. The courtyard doors open onto two bedrooms, a dressing room and a sauna. Spectacularly, the sliding glass doors of the Chrysanthemum en-suite open onto the courtyard to give that outdoor shower feeling, if that is what you want!
At night, both courtyards are beautifully lit with the warm glow of low level wall lights and hidden lighting around the edge of the planting area. Pad from one end of the villa to the other in the soft and gentle ambience. When the moon is out you can see your way through the courtyards just as clearly by moonbeam.
Continuing the Asian theme throughout the villa, native rugs woven by the longhouse dwellers in Borneo hang on the walls.
The overhead sliding roofs can be fully closed off at night providing comfort and security, and fully opened during the day providing natural light and air – truly bringing the outside into the inside.
